(According to the Practice of Shaykh Ibrāhīm Niasse)
Question;
Assamu'alaykum wa Rahmatullah. Can someone send me the division of the Qur'ān to Khatam as per Shaykh Ibrahim Niasse's practice. Thank You.
Answer;
A lot of people don’t realize that the way Shaykh Ibrahim would recite was based on a Hadith that Ahmad and Abu Dawud narrated from Aws b. Hudhayfa, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: 'We came to the Messenger of Allah, prayers and peace be upon him, as part of the delegation of Thaqif.'
He said: 'The Messenger of Allah, prayers and peace be upon him, would come to us every night after 'isha and speak to us.'
He said: 'One night he was late from (coming to see us at) the time he would come to us.'
We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you have come to us late tonight.'
He said: 'I had my portion of the Qur'an to read and I did not want to come until I had finished it.'
Aws said: 'I asked the companions of the Messsenger of Allah, prayers and peace be upon him, about how he divided up his reading of the Qur'an.'
They said: 'Three, five, seven, nine, eleven, thirteen and the Mufassal.'
Thus, the Prophet, prayers and peace be upon him, would complete the Qur'an weekly. His reading would be as follows:
Saturday: Al-Fatiha (chapter 1) through an-Nisa (chapter 4) consisting of the Fathia and 3 chapters (Surah).
Sunday: Al-Ma'idah (chapter 5) through at-Tawbah (chapter 9) consisting of 5 chapters.
Monday: Yunus (chapter 10) through an-Nahl (chapter 16) consisting of 7 chapters.
Tuesday: al-Isra'' (chapter 17) through al-Furqan (chapter 25) consisting of 9 chapters.
Wednesday: ash-Shu'ara' (chapter 26) through Ya-Sin (chapter 36) consisting of 11 chapters.
Thursday: as-Saaffat (chapter 37) through al-Hujurat (chapter 49) consisting of 13 chapters.
Friday: Qaf (chapter 50) through al-Nas (chapter 114) consisting of the remaining 65 chapters.
And Shaykh versified this by saying
بكر عقود يونس سبحانا
والشعراء اليقطين قاف بانا
