AL-YĀQŪTATUL FARĪDA (THE UNIQUE RUBY)

[One of the Most Important Books in Tijaniyyah]

Professor Rüdiger Seeseman in his long treatise on the Fayda and its harbinger (Shaikh Ibrahim Niasse) titled “The Divine Flood” stated thus;

Al-Yaqūta al-farīda was written in 1342/1923-4 by the Moroccan Tijānī scholar Maḥammad al-Naẓīfī (d. 1366/1947), in which he described the future of the Tijāniyya as follows:

It will last and remain for a long time to come,

and at the end of times it will bring a fayḍa.

Dr. Andrea Brigaglia also noted that;

In a poem on the Tijānī path (al-Yāqūta al-farīda), Naẓīfī had some verses that mentioned the coming of the fayḍa and emphasized its connection to the end of time. These verses would be quoted by the followers of the fayḍa tijāniyya as an anticipation of the achievements of Shaykh Ibrāhīm Niasse. It is possible that the expectation of the fayḍa was a theme that was discretely emphasized by some disciples of Naẓīfī, and that the link to the Moroccan scholar revived in Kano by Ujdūd and al-ʿAlamī in the 1920s was an important element to create the humus of expectations upon which the fayḍa of Ibrāhīm Niasse would blossom a few years later.

Muḥammad al-ʿAlamī founded the first public zāwiya of the order in Kano city, in the Northern ward of Koki (and the major figures in the kano Tijānī center were Muḥammad Salga and Abū Bakr Mijinyawa).

Maḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Wāḥid al-Naẓīfī also wrote a detailed explanation of the Yāqūtat al-Farīda which he titled “al-Durra al-kharīda fī sharh al-Yaqūta al-farīda”.

In another article, “Understanding the Faydah”, Imam Fakhruddin Owaisi pointed out that;

The renowned Tijani scholar of Marrakesh, Arif-bi Llah, Shaykh Sidi Muhammad bin Abd-al-Wahid al-Nazifi (RA) pointed to these conditions in al-Durrah al-Kharidah. He wrote:

The Tariqah Tijaniyyah will persist, remaining through many ages

And in the latter times, it will bring forth a Faydah

Then mankind will enter it in droves, Longing

For what they witness of Divine connection blossoming (before them)
