RABBI TARĀNĪ (OH MY LORD! YOU SEE ME)
[Seeking for Divine Assistance (Istigathah) through the alphabets of Qur’an28:24 (The Supplication of Prophet Musa)]

THE SUPPLICATION OF PROPHET MUSA
(Qur’an28:24 (Surat al-Qasas, Verse 24))
رَبِّ إِنِّي لِمَا أَنْزَلْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ
Rabbi! Innî limâ anzalta ilayya min khairin faqeer.
Lord! Truly I am in need of whatever good that You bestow on me).





Ra:
رب تراني بائسا فقيرا * فارحم رحيمي البائس الفقيرا
Rabbi taraanii baa’isaan faqeeraa ** far’ham raheemii l baa’isa l faqeeraa

Oh my Lord! You see me in misery and poverty ** Shower Your Mercy upon me; Oh You The Merciful of the miserable and the poor.


B:
بالذات بالصفات بالأسماء * تكشف لى الكرب تشفي دائى
Bi dh-dhaati wa s-sifaati bi-l asmaa’i ** takshifu lii-l kuraba tashfii daa’ee

By your Essence, Your Attributes and Your Names ** Remove (Clear-up) the sorrow (sadness) of my life in entirety.


B:
بالمصطفى بمجمع الشئون * بالأنبيا بسرك المصون
Bi-l Mustafaa bi majma‘i sh-shu’uuni ** bil Anbiyaa bi-sirrika l masuun

By al-Mustafaa (the chosen one) and by the honour of collective matters (of the saints) ** And also by the Prophets and by Your hidden secrets!


I:
أغث عبيدا ما له رجاء * فيما سواك مسه الضراء
Agith ‘ubaydaan maa lahu rajaa’u ** fiimaa siwaaka mas-sahu d-daraa’u

Assist Your sincere servant who believes in and relies on ** ..none but You alone during his/her difficulties.


N:
نلتمس البذل من الوهاب * ربي القريب حالة اغترابي
Naltamisu-l badh-la mina-l Wahhabi ** Rabbi-l qareebu haalata-gtiraabi

We humbly maintain the gift from The Most Generous One! ** My Lord! You’re mostly nearer to me in my sojourn.


N:
نسأله سلامة وأوبا * قارن لي غنيمة وسيبا
Nas-aluhu salaamatan wa awbaan ** qaarana lii ganeematan wa saybaa

We humbly seek for His Peace and Tranquilty  ** And also for treasure(s) and absolute freedom.


Î:
يقضي حقوقي ويديم سيري * إلى إلٰهي ويديم نصري
Yaqdee huquuqee wa yudeemu sayree ** ilaa Ilaahii wa yudeemu nasrii

Grant my needs; bless my deeds and satisfy me forever ** Upon my God I always rely; Cease not Your favour upon me.


Li:
لا تشمتن بنا عدوا حاسدا * أرغم عدوي كاشحا وحاقدا
Laa tashmitan binaa ‘aduwwaan haasidaa ** arghim ‘aduwwii kaashi-haan wa haaqidaa

Allow not our enemies and envious ones overcome us ** Disgrace our enemies and those who have hatred and malice against us.


M:
مهما تراكم الهموم والكرب * فلن أرى سواك يقضي لى الأرب
Mahamaa taraakama-l humuumu wa-l kurab ** Fa-lan araa siwaaka yaqdee lii-l arab

When the grief and sorrow pile-up ** I see no saviour who can assist except You.


Â:
أنت الذي تفعل ما تشاء * كما تشاء لا كما نشاء
Anta-l ladhee taf‘alu maa tashaa’u ** kamaa tashaa’u laa kamaa nashaa’u

Free You are (Oh Lord) to do whatever pleases You ** As You wish it to be; not as we wish it to be.


A:
إني أطأطأ هناك رأسى * أسلمت حيث لا أريد نفسى
Innee uta’ati’u hunaaka ra’asii ** aslamtu haythu laa uriidu nafsee

I humbly bow my fore-head before Your Highness ** And wholeheartedly submit my soul to Your Wish.


N:
ننظر ما تصدر من أحكام * بعين مرضاة مدى الأيام
Nanzuru maa tasduru min ah’kaami ** bi-‘ayni mar’daatin madaa-l ayyaami

We look towards your judgement Oh Lord; ** with Your Merciful Eyes, Overlook and forgive all our inadequacies.


Za:
زال اختياري مالكى وواهبى * وهبت ما أعيٰ لسان حاسب
Zaala-khtiyaarii maalikee wa waahibii ** wa habta maa a‘ayaa lisaana haasibi

My choice has disappeared Oh my Sovereign Lord, Ultimate and Bestower! ** Bestow upon me wisdom and enrich my tongue with understanding.


L:
لك إلٰهى الشكر كى ترضانى * إليك ملجئى أجل ترعانى
Laka Ilaahii sh-shukru kay-tardaanii ** ilayka malja’ee ajal tar-‘aanii

To You Allah, I foreword my thank(s) for Your favour upon me ** Bless me; (thus) I put my trust in You!


Ta:
تحفظ لى صحبى كذا أحبابى * مدى الدوام أمد الأحقاب
Tah’fazu lii sah’bii kadhaa ah’baabii ** madaa d-dawaami amada-l ah’qaabi

Oh Allah! Protect me, my friends and my beloved ones ** from now on, till the end of time.  


I:
أحد يا صمد يا قهار * ويا مهيمن ويا جبار
Ahadu yaa Samadu yaa Qahhaaru ** wa yaa Muhayminu wa yaa Jabbaaru

Oh The One (Singular)! Oh The Eternally Besought of All! Oh The Subduer! ** Oh The Protector and The Compeller.


La:
لا مس أحبابى أذى من حاسد * وماكر وكاذب وكائد
Laa-massa ah’baabii adhaan min haasidi ** wa maakirin wa kaadhibin wa kaa’idi

Allow not the affliction (burden) of the envious ones; ** the plotters, the liars and the evil strategists, to affect my beloved ones.


Ya:
يقى المهيمن الجليل صحبى * ويهلكن من يعادى حزبى
Yaqee-l Muhayminu-l Jaleelu sah’bii ** wa yuh’likanna man yu‘aadii hizbii

Oh The Protector and The Sublime! Save my friends ** and destroy (all) those who disturb my followers.


Mi:
متين شددن على الأعداء * أعداء دينى دونما إبطاء
Mateenu shaddidan ‘alaa-l a‘adaa’i ** a‘adaa’i-d deenii duunamaa ibtaa’i

Oh the Firm One! Supress my enemies ** who disturb my religious activities with no delay.


N:
نرجوا من اللطيف والغفار * لطفا يقينا سائر الأقدار
Narjuu mina-l Lateefi wa-l Ghaffaari ** Lutfaan yaqeenaan saa’iraa-l aqdaari

From the subtle One and The All-Forgiving One ** We hope for the oblivious kindness (compassion) that computes our destiny.


Kha:
خيرا كثيرا شاملا أصحابى * يقصدنا من حضرة الوهاب
Khayraan katheeraan shaamilaan as’haabii ** yaqsudunaa min hadrati-l Wahhaabi

Grant my followers numerous good fortunes which would surround them ** from Your Divine Office; Oh The Most Generous One!


Y:
يسرا ونصرا وهدى وسترا * وتوبة مقبولة وذخرا
Yusraan wa Nasraan wa hudaan wa sitraa ** wa tawbatan maqbuulatan wa dhukhraa

Endow with us ease, victory, guidance and privacy; ** and also (with) an accepted repentance and treasury.


Ri:
رسول خير سرمدا وأبدا * أرشد قرنى أقتفى محمدا
Rasuula khayrin sar’madaan wa abadaa ** ur’shidu qar’nii aqtafii muhammadaa

By Your Messenger whose fortune is eternal ** Guide our allies and the beloved of Prophet Muhammad


Fa:
فنجنى ونج لى قوامى * نج السنوسى كذا أقوامى
Fa-Najjinee wa Najji lii Quwaamii ** Najji s-Sanuusiyya Kadhaa aqwaamii

Thus; rescue me and save for me Kwame (Nkruma (The First Prime Minister & President of Ghana, 1957-1966)) ** Protect Sanusi (Emir of Kano (1954-1963) and Khalifa of Shaikh Ibrahim Niasse in Nigeria), as well as my followers!

Qi:
قدير صلين على الرسول * محمد ولتحضرن لى سولى
Qadeeru salliyan ‘alaa-r Rasuuli ** Muhammadin wa-l tuhdiran lii suulii

Oh The Most Capable One! Bestow upon the Messenger: ** MUHAMMAD, and then grant me my request.


Y:
يصحبها التسليم والإجلال * كذا الصحاب وكذاك الآل
Yas’habuhaa-t tasleemu wa-l ijlaalu ** kadhaa-s sihaabu wa kadhaaka-l aalu

Extend the Peace with the greatness ** to his companions, as well as his household.


R:
رب وإنى أحمد الإلٰها * حمدا ينيل أمتى مغزاها
Rabbi wa innee ahmadu-l Ilaahaa ** hamdaan yuneelu ummatii mughzaahaa

Oh Lord! Indeed, I am praising You; GOD: ** The praise that my community enjoys its rewards.
